More than 93,000 Wisconsin households could lose electricity, gas or water service next month if regulators allow a yearlong moratorium on utility shut-offs to expire, though recent federal aid packages could provide some relief.
Data collected by the Public Service Commission show that as of Feb. 15, as many as 121,633 households met the criteria for disconnection, which in most cases means they were at least 60 days past due.
Utilities reported that 93,263 households and 4,810 businesses would be subject to disconnection in April if they donât enter into payment plans, though the utilities noted they may not have the staff to shut off all those accounts. Nearly 21,230 of those households are at risk of losing water service.

The Montreal Canadiens do not plan to be active before the 2021 NHL Trade Deadline on April 12, though forward prospect Cole Caufield could join them after his NCAA season ends.
Caufield was selected by Montreal in the first round (No. 15) of the 2019 NHL Draft and has scored 48 points (27 goals, 21 assists) in 29 games for the University of Wisconsin this season. He was unanimously named player of the year in the Big Ten Conference.
A Maryland lawmaker is vying for the state to reimburse personal property taxes to businesses reeling from the pandemic, though the refund could cost the state an estimated $365 million.
Last year, Maryland businesses paid an average of $2,860 in these property taxes, which include physical assets that businesses need to operate â like refrigerators at restaurants and swivel chairs at barber shops.
More than 126,000 Maryland businesses filed a personal property tax return in 2020, according to a legislative analysis, and Del. Kevin Hornberger (RâCecil) said his bill, House Bill 1257, will keep small businesses that are on the brink of collapse from shuttering.

The Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop in downtown Damariscotta is holding a special sale on music CDs, from Monday, March 22 through Saturday, April 3. Every CD will be on sale at half price; there’s also a “buy 5 get 2 free” offer.
The shop has hundreds of CDs in categories including Classical, Opera, Rock, New Age, Show Tunes, Easy Listening, World, Pop, Folk, Alternative, Jazz, Country, Blues, and others. There’s also a section of CDs for children.
The book shop re-opened on Monday, March 8, after being closed since November because of the pandemic. Strict safety protocols are in place to help protect customers and volunteers. Anyone over age two must wear a mask; use the available hand sanitizer; and maintain physical distance according to CDC guidelines.
