According to produce dealers, the Kenyan government has so far returned over 70,000 metric tons of maize they had exported to the neighbouring country.
The returned maize is now stored at the Namaubi produce warehouse in Dabani sub-county, Mayombe parking yard maize store and others are in stores in Busia produce market. The traders say they have run out of space to keep that maize since they expect hundreds of trucks that had crossed to Kenya to return with the maize to Busia town because of the ban.
Muhammad Zubair, one of the producer dealers, says that the Kenyan authorities returned 90,000 tons of maize worth Shs 50 million he had transported to Kenya. He expressed concern that the maize might rot in the stores since they now do not have clients.

The commerce ministry will soon seek the Cabinet’s approval for the national logistics policy, which aims to promote seamless movement of goods across the country.
“The policy is at the near-finalisation stage. Consultations with all ministries, departments and other stakeholders have happened. All their views and comments have been factored in. It will soon go for the Cabinet approval,” Pawan Agarwal, special secretary at the commerce ministry’s logistics division, said on Wednesday.
A comprehensive institutional framework is also being set up to ensure the smooth implementation of the policy, Agarwal added. Towards this end, a national logistics council, a central advisory committee on logistics, and an empowered group of secretaries have been planned.
After many years of planning and getting all the necessary clearance, the town of Ecru officially expanded their limits today, March 10. After the signing of final approval last month by Chancery Judge Michael Malski, the town had to wait 30 days for any final objections before it became official.Â
This allowed the town to sprawl out three square miles.
âThe town is currently four square miles,â noted Mayor Jeff Smith. âThis will add the additional three.â
The limits will run south of town and stops at the top of the hill at McWhirters Bend. It will run due east to the channel. On the on the west side of Highway 15 the limits will go just to the edge of the industrial park without including the factories.
