Canberra boost for Pacific women s initiatives; trade commission reopening in Suva; and Samoa sends more workers to Australia; The Australian government has announced it is providing 132 million dollars to strengthen gender equality initiatives in the Pacific over the next five years. The commitment was revealed at the Triennial Conference of Pacific Women on Tuesday. The University of South Pacific student newspaper Wansolwara reports the Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne saying Australia wants to strengthen women s leadership and to complement the work they re already engaged in. She said that ensure women s economic security means ensure women s safety. Ms Payne also said promoting health and wellbeing is not only of benefit to women and girls, it benefits their communities.

Trade expo aims to develop French-Fijian relations

Photo: RNZI / Johnny Blades The E-Trade Exposition developed by Investment Fiji and New Caledonia Trade and Invest (NCTI), and supported by the Fijian, French and New Caledonian governments is expected to improve develop bilateral relations. Fiji s Tourism and Trade Minister Faiyaz Koya said the expo was one of the many initiatives undertaken jointly by Fiji and New Caledonia to improve their partnership. He said the 2019 Fiji-New Caledonia Business Forum had highlighted the significant untapped economic potential that exists between our countries . Koya said while a reciprocal mission to Noumea was side-tracked due to the pandemic, Friday s event demonstrates that we are continuing to build on this foundation for successful business collaborations.

Fiji has not given up on Bula Bubble

Fiji is continuing to push for a travel bubble between its major tourist markets Australia and New Zealand. Fiji s borders have been closed since last March and with New Zealand and Australia still battling Covid-19 cases at home, the wait maybe longer. Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya said the government was optimistic its regional partners would come to the table. Koya said visitors would still need to meet the requirements under the Bula Bubble scheme.

Looks Like Survivor Season 41 Is Finally Taking A Major Step Forward
