The difference is employees can’t continue working for their firm for the duration of the furlough scheme, not even on a voluntary basis. If you’re furloughed and earn more than £2,500, you’ll be at a disadvantage as the scheme is capped at that amount. In that case, an employer could choose to top up your salary, or you could be eligible for extra help through benefits like Universal Credit.
