Gov. Oyetola expresses commitment to workersâ welfare in Osun

Osogbo, May 1, 2021 Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, on Saturday, expressed his administrationâs commitment to the welfare of workers in the state.
Oyetola, however, urged the workers to approach their jobs with renewed vigour and commitment.
The governor, who made the remarks at the 2021 Workersâ Day celebrations, held at Osogbo Township Stadium, acknowledged the roles of the workers in building the economy of the state.
He expressed gratitude to them for their hard work, resilience and sacrifice, even in the face of daunting challenges.
âAnnual Workersâ Day affords us an opportunity to pay deserved tribute to you, our teeming workers, who are the engine room of government.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) is asking government to stop using COVID-19 as an excuse and review the salaries of workers upwards to help them deal with the recent economic hardships in the country.
Organized labour says recent fuel increments, coupled with the skyrocketing prices of goods and services, are taking a toll on the Ghanaian worker.
The call was made in Koforidua on May 1, during the Eastern Regional May Day Celebration under the theme “Economic recovery in an era of COVID-19: The role of social partners.”
The Eastern Regional Chairman of TUC, Augustine Micheal Owusu, demanded an increase in the salaries of workers to match the high cost of living.
About 150 labour union leaders under the umbrella group, Trades Union Congress (TUC), gathered at the GNAT Hall in Koforidua to mark this year s May Day, a day set aside every year to celebrate worker s contribution to national development. The usual match past of thousands of workers from various parts of the Eastern Region converging at the Koforidua Jackson Park was conspicuously missing for the second time due to COVID-19 restrictions. Clad in their various individual unions paraphernalia, the leaders sang motivated labour songs and danced as they tried to observe COVID-19 preventive protocols. Workers in the Eastern Region received commendation from the regional minister, Mr Seth Acheampong, who joined the labour day celebration observed on low key due to restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Saturday approved 10 hectares of land in Idera, Ibeju Lekki, and Badagry for workers housing schemes.
Mr Sanwo-Olu handed over the title documents to chairpersons of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) at an elaborate event organised to commemorate Workers’ Day.
The event, with the theme: “COVID-19 Pandemic, Social and Economic Crises: Challenges for Jobs, Social Protection and Peoples’ Welfare”, was held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, in the heart of Lagos.
The two housing schemes will be built by the labour unions with funds from Federal Mortgage Bank. The Ministry of Housing will supervise the project.
