Members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, have advised Nigerians to expect a higher petrol pump price in the coming days, saying price may rise to N195 per litre.
They lamented what they described as “inconsistencies” on the part of the Federal Government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and its subsidiary, the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, on deregulation policy.

Campaigners for a pay rise in Ipswich last year

A fresh campaign has been launched calling on the government to allocate cash in the 2021 Budget for a health workers pay rise.
The Fair Pay for Key Workers campaign being run by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) is calling for a pay rise for all NHS key workers who have been instrumental during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is calling on the government to up the minimum wage to £10 per hour from the current £8.72, halt public sector pay freezes, and ensure outsourced workers for public services are paid the Real Living Wage.
IN A thoughtful piece about trade unions, the journalist and historian Andy Beckett made the following observation after visiting exhibition stalls at a Trade Union Congress conference.
“Two were for campaigns about the victimisation of union members: the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign, which fights for recognition of the brutal treatment of miners by the police during the defeated strike of 1984-85; and the Shrewsbury 24 Campaign, ‘seeking to overturn the unjust prosecution of 24 building workers who were charged following the first ever national building workers’ strike in 1972.’
“The trade union movement does not forget. That is one of the things that keeps it alive; but sometimes the past seems to matter too much.”
