Worcestershire Wildlife Trust s warning to nature reserve visitors

The Knapp and Papermill nature reserve, Tiddesley Wood (the Harry Green Reserve) and Monkwood are just some of the nature reserves that are right on our doorstep. However, before you flock to one on the next sunny day, the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust have some advice for people before they embark on their journey.   Since lockdown last year, these beautiful but sensitive places have seen massive increases in visitors. In addition to the impact on the nature reserves themselves, the number of cars travelling to the nature reserves is causing issues for neighbours and other road-users.

Photo by Wendy Carter AN ambitious project to turn 95 acres of farmland in Kidderminster into Worcestershire s largest heathland for wildlife has reached an important milestone. Thanks to donations from members of the public, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has successfully raised the match-funding necessary to apply for a Lottery grant to fund the purchase of Dropping Well Farm, located between Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport. The pocket of land connects the Devil’s Spittleful and Blackstone Farm Fields nature reserves with Wyre Forest District Council’s Rifle Range, Burlish Top and Burlish Meadows.

95 acres of Worcestershire fields to be transformed into heathland in new project

LAND: The Devil s Spittleful, Pic. Wendy Carter 95 acres of land in Worcestershire is to be repurposed into heathland, providing a safe haven for insects. The land between Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport connects The Devil’s Spittleful and Blackstone Farm Fields nature reserves with Wyre Forest District Council’s Rifle Range, Burlish Top and Burlish Meadows nature reserves. Now 95 acres of arable fields will be turned back into heathland to help support wildlife including the hornet robberfly and minotaur bee. The land is being restored as part of a nationwide programme by the country s wildlife trusts, and Mike Perry, head of resources for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, said; The chance to buy 95 acres of Dropping Well Farm will enable us to create Worcestershire’s largest heathland, which will sit within 600 acres of wider habitat.
