As of March 31, the health unit has administered 16,682 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, mostly in mass vaccination sites across the district, including Memorial Gardens arena.
The health unit states that almost 15 per cent of individuals aged 18 and older have received at least their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, but Chirico says more is needed.

The Ontario government has announced a month-long shutdown in the province starting Saturday in an effort to control rising cases of COVID-19.
Premier Doug Ford announced Thursday afternoon, and confirming several media reports, that the province would pull the so-called ’emergency brake,’ bringing all 34 public health regions in the province into a shutdown for a period of four weeks.

“Friends, right now we are into a third wave of COVID-19,” Ford said. “The variants of concern are spreading rapidly, this is a new pandemic.”

Two pharmacies in North Bay and one in Sturgeon Falls have been approved to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine to those 55 years of age or older.
However, it is unclear at this time when each of these pharmacies will be able to begin vaccinating patients or when the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit will receive a supply of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The locations are among 350 additional pharmacies and primary care settings in the province that will be offering the AstraZeneca vaccine, the province announced Thursday. Some locations will begin offering the vaccine as early as Saturday.
