Ontario reports 3,266 new COVID cases today There have now been more than 200,000 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since the start of the pandemic Jan 6, 2021 11:06 AM By: Erika Engel Public Health Ontario has reported 3,266 new cases of COVID-19 today.  The province reported 37 deaths in today s update. Of those, 20 were residents of long-term care homes. Ten of the deaths reported today were individuals between 60 and 79 years old, and 27 were over the age of 80.  Since yesterday, 125 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and 11 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. While the COVID-19 vaccine is now in Thunder Bay, most of us will have to wait months to receive it. A Personal Support Worker was the first person in the region to get the Pfizer vaccine, getting the first of two doses this morning. Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says it will be a “six- to nine-month process,” and the vaccine won’t be available to the wider community until April or later. The first few months will focus on healthcare workers and other high-priority groups identified by the province.

Three Additional Deaths at Roseview Care Facility from COVID-19 Thunder Bay – COVID-19 Update – Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) is reporting 4 (four) new COVID-19 cases in residents in the TBDHU Region. The cases are tied to the Southbridge Roseview long-term care facility in Thunder Bay. There are now 116 active cases in the district. One person is in hospital, and one person in intensive care. This is a part of the testing which was completed on Friday, December 11, 2020. Southbridge Roseview reports this morning, “Southbridge Roseview is in a confirmed COVID-19 outbreak with 17 active resident cases and 19 active staff cases. These staff members are currently isolating and recovering at home. It is with deep sadness that we share that 11 residents have passed as a result of this virus.”
