Photo / Warren Buckland Hawkes Bay Today Abuse of hospital staff has prompted the Hawke s Bay District Health Board to increase its security presence and install more CCTV cameras. DHB chief executive Keriana Brooking said the district health board had a zero tolerance to violence and verbal threats and would trespass visitors who were abusive to staff. She said staff who work for the DHB, or in any other healthcare setting in Hawke s Bay, should not have to face abuse, intimidation or violence of any kind at work.

Council buys prime spot on Napier Hill earmarked for housing, for new drinking water reservoir

A council spokesman said the Enfield Road reservoir, also based on the hill, was nearing the end of its life and needed replacing. Its current site, the hospital land and several others had been investigated and assessed for their availability, capacity and ease of development. Developer Templeton Group previously owned the land and its chief executive, Nigel McKenna​ ,said the council had approached Templeton Group, about the importance of the site. “Given that this site has been a long-held Government asset which provided health care support to the community for many years, a return to council ownership for the site to maintain its role as an infrastructure asset that supports its community going forward seemed appropriate,” McKenna said.

Fire on ship docked at Napier Port under control

The Singapore-registered Kota Bahagia, berthed at Napier, was carrying general cargo, machinery and components when the fire broke out. All crew have been accounted for. Harald Hendel, chief investigator of accidents at the commission, had appointed a team of two investigators for the inquiry. They were due on-site on Saturday. “The investigation team has expert knowledge of marine operations, engineering, maintenance and electronic forensics,” Hendel said. A fire broke out on a ship docked at Napier Port on Friday morning. Work would include interviewing witnesses and inspecting the ship’s hold when it’s re-opened, along with its contents and other parts when safe to do so.
