Industry asks why do essential workers from Covid-free nations face quarantine when Australian tourists do not?
If it s good enough for the Aussies then why not RSE workers from Samoa?
That s the question New Zealand Apples & Pears business development manager Gary Jones wants people to keep asking.
Jones gave a briefing on the pipfruit industry on Thursday to Hastings District Council s Operations and Monitoring Committee.
He highlighted the inconsistency of allowing Australian tourists into New Zealand, when there are community cases of Covid in Australia, while limiting the arrival of much-needed Pacific Island workers who come from Covid-free nations.

Two people suffered moderate injuries after a car rolled on State Highway 2, near Norsewood.
Two fire trucks, two fire support vans and two ambulances were called to the single-vehicle crash about 6.30pm on Tuesday.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said the two occupants of the car suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Hawke s Bay Hospital.

Hawke s Bay s first community Covid-19 vaccination clinics are almost here, with bookings being taken for one in Waimarama.
As of May 4, 6331 people in Hawke s Bay had received their first dose of the Covid vaccine – a jump of 2361 since April 26. A total of 1710 have had the second vaccination.
A flyer is now being distributed to the Waimarama community explaining a Covid-19 vaccination clinic is set to be held soon at Waimarama marae.
