Thursday Morning Conversation with Nobu Okada of Astroscale

With the Olympics now in full swing, it is only natural we should go Tokyo for this week’s Thursday Morning Conversation to talk to Astroscale CEO Nobu Okada. Life is a series of events. Imagine somewhat randomly going to a space conference in Bremen, Germany, and coming out of it with the idea to start a space company. Canada s EarthDaily Plans to Build & Launch a New Imagery Satellite Constellation by 2023

Canadian data processing and analytics company EarthDaily Analytics Corp. (EDA) says it will start building a new constellation of nine Earth observation satellites this month and plans to have them all launched and operational by the end of 2023. The Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation will provide geospatial analytics covering agriculture, forestry, environment, financial services, and defense and intelligence during an expected lifespan of over 10 years. EDA spokesperson Andrew Mullin told Via Satellite that the satellite constellation would include nine LEO satellites that are able to collect imagery in a combination of 21 spectral bands. The satellites will operate 750-800 kilometers above Earth and a majority of the imagery collected will be 5-meter resolution.

Thursday Morning Conversation With Sara Spangelo of Swarm

Via Satellite managing editor Rachel Jewett joins as host to chat with Swarm CEO Sara Spangelo. Rachel and Sara spoke on June 29, just before the SpaceX Transporter-2 mission was set to launch. The launch was delayed by a day, but this interview captures Sara’s pre-launch excitement, as a number of Swarm satellites were part of the mission.  Sara shares how Swarm’s strategy came out of her work in the early days of smallsat development, and how the company has seen a lot of demand for its remote Internet of Things (IoT) technology from customers in New Zealand and Australia. In typical TMC fashion, the conversation goes beyond satellite and Sara talks about how reading “Why We Sleep” more than a year ago changed her outlook on her sleep habits. Enjoy!
