April 06, 2021 - 4:09 PM A discouraging surge in COVID-19 cases, specifically with variants of concern, has prompted B.C. health officials to issue another plea to batten down, avoid travel and tighten social circles. Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 1,068 cases of COVID-19 106 of which were within Interior Health in the last day. Of all cases, 207 were variants of concern. All but one of these was in the Vancouver Coastal Health Region. while one was in the Fraser Health region, Dr. Henry said, adding that raises the total number of cases that are the variants of concern to 3,766.

Posted: April 6, 2021 B.C.’s COVID-19 updates for April 6 Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, today (April 6) issued the following joint statement regarding updates on the COVID-19 response in British Columbia. Dr. Bonnie Henry Today, we are reporting 1,068 new cases, including 33 epi-linked cases, for a total of 105,988 cases in British Columbia. There are 8,671 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 14,118 people under public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases. A further 95,691 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 328 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 96 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Of the new cases, 352 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 492 were in the Fraser Health region, 73 were in Island Health, 106 were in Interior Health, and 43 were in Northern Health. The number of people in self-isolation has spiked to a record high 14,101 people. There are now 328 people in hospital, up 10 patients since Monday, with a record high 96 patients in intensive care with the virus. Dr. Bonnie Henry also confirmed another 207 cases of these variants of concern, all but one of which are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.
