HOWLAND Jean A. Marshall, age 90, of Howland, died of a short illness Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, at the Ohio Living Lake Vista.
She was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Warren, the daughter of James W. and Helen E. Gaughan, and lived in the area all of her life.
She was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in 1948 and a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in September 1951. She received her RN certificate from the state of Ohio in November of that year.
She had worked at St. Joseph Hospital and Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and had been a volunteer at the school when her children attended there. She also delivered meals for Trumbull County Mobile Meals for 30 years. She belonged to F.O.W.L. at the Warren Trumbull County Library and served on the F.O.W.L. Board for 20 years.

LECTURE PROGRAM: Celebrate Black History Month with readings of poems by African-American poets in February. Visit the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library’s YouTube channel each Wednesday for a short lecture on African-American history and culture and an analysis of the poem. Programs are 3 p.m. Wednesday and Feb. 10, 17 and 24.
PUPS NEED LOVE TOO: The Friends of Fido is holding its seventh annual “Love is in the Air” fundraising event. From now until Feb. 14, anyone can mail $1 or more along with a valentine to Friends of Fido, P.O. Box 2963, Youngstown, OH 44511. Donations also are accepted at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road, Youngstown. The donations primarily help the dogs receive proper medical treatment and vet bills.

HONORING MLK: The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Scholarship Committee will host the 21st annual celebration honoring the life and legacy of King. The program “Reflect, Reset, Reach Forward” will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. today as a virtual celebration on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89259078123. MLK WORKSHOP: The YWCA Mahoning Valley and the MLK Planning Committee will host a Martin Luther King Jr. workshop set for 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m today on Zoom, covering the topics criminal justice, health care and youth empowerment.
