Biden Receives COVID-19 Vaccine Biden received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at ChristianaCare Hospital near Wilmington, Delaware. “We owe these folks a lot. The scientists and the people who put this together, the frontline workers, the people who were the ones that did the clinical work,” Biden said as he received a shot. Biden said he is “doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it’s available to take the vaccine,” adding, “There is nothing to worry about.” The former vice president was accompanied by his wife, Jill Biden, who also received a vaccine. Other political leaders such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Vice President Mike Pence, and others have received the vaccine. It’s not clear when President Donald Trump will receive the vaccine.

I didn t feel a thing, Pence said. Well done. Pence, who wore a short-sleeved shirt and a face mask, sat in a chair next to an American flag and under a sign that said “SAFE and EFFECTIVE.” He received the recently approved vaccine developed by Pfizer that is being distributed throughout the country. Karen and I hope this step today will be a source of confidence and of comfort to the American people, Pence said.  These days of hardship and heartbreak will, in a day not too far in the future, be put in the past. Acknowledging that coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are still rising across the country, Pence said the way through the pandemic is vigilance and a vaccine. He encouraged the public to continue to do your part through hand washing, mask wearing and social distancing while the vaccine is being administered.

Pence noted that while vaccines normally take several years to research and develop, he wanted to take the vaccine publicly in order to “assure the American people that while we cut red tape, we cut no corners.” The vice president also said that 2.9 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been allocated this week, and 20 million doses will be distributed by the end of December. Pence described the vaccine as “a medical miracle,” and declared, “I am confident we will get through this, and we will heal our land.”
