Under this bill, it would be illegal to refuse to insure or continue to insure an individual, limit the amount of coverage, charge a different amount for the same coverage or discriminate against an individual based on donation status. Ron Hayden, executive director of the National Kidney Foundation, told the committee that this mostly pertains to life insurance and long-term care insurance coverage. He said he personally knows organ donors who have been discriminated against after donating organs.
