The relay hunger strikes launched by the Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee in protest against the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) entered the 80th day on Sunday.
Union representatives from LMMM, WRM, RS&RS departments participated in the strike.
Addressing the gathering, committee convener J. Ayodhya Ram alleged that the ‘mindless decisions’ of the Centre, at a time when the nation was reeling under the coronavirus pandemic, was causing untold hardships to the people.

To deal with the second wave of COVID-19, the RINL-Visakhapatnam steel plant is making use of all its internal resources and available facilities and coming up with a 1000 bed Covid Care Hospital Facility on its premises.
According to a spokesman of RINL, The central government had directed the RINL collective to build facilities in Ukkunagaram, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant s township, to provide covid care to 1000 patients.
He further added that the fabrication works for cots are progressing at a fast pace at Utility Equipment Repair Shop (UERS) inside plant premises. He also stated, All the necessary material procurement and arrangements to facilitate the clinical delivery of medical Oxygen near the patient bed are being expedited.
In mid of corona surge in all over the country, RINL-Visakhapatnam steel plant is established massive “1000 bed Covid Care Hospital facility” in its premises. In the first step towards arranging 1000 bed facility, the Gurajada Kalakshetram, the huge popular function hall in Township of VSP is being made into a Covid Care Centre.
