Insufficient Voter Turnout Causes Pullman Area Volunteer Fire Department Levies To Fail

Not enough voter turnout has caused the Pullman area volunteer fire department’s levies from last month’s special election to fail. Both Whitman County Fire District 12 measures received strong voter approval for passage but 650 ballots needed to be cast to validate the results.  The voter turnout ended about 125 ballots short for validation. The Whitman County Auditor’s Office tabulated the final vote by mail ballots and certified the April special election on Friday.  District 12’s fire levy received 77% voter approval while the volunteer’s EMS levy received 75% approval.

Pullman Area Volunteer Fire Department Levies Being Approved-Voter Turnout Must Increase To Validate Final Results

The levy measures for the Pullman area volunteer fire department from Tuesday’s special election are being approved but voter turnout needs to increase to validate the final results. Whitman County Fire District 12’s fire levy is receiving 76% approval while the volunteer’s EMS levy is receiving 75% approval after Tuesday night’s initial vote count.  Initial voter turnout for those levies is around 400.  Turnout needs to hit 650 to validate the results. The Whitman County Auditor’s Office will run another batch of vote by mail ballots Wednesday night.  The office estimates there are about 80 ballots left to count countywide. The Lamont School District levy is passing with 54% of the vote.
