Windsor’s efforts to land Canada’s first electric vehicle battery plant received a boost Friday when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed the federal government would back the bid with the same level of financial commitment it has made to the Detroit 3 automakers’ electrification plans.
Windsor is trying to land a $2-billion battery manufacturing plant that would create 2,000 direct jobs.

“Absolutely,” said Trudeau when asked if the federal government was prepared to invest at the same level to establish a domestic electric vehicle battery supply chain.
WINDSOR, ONT. Ontario s Ministry of Education wants asymptomatic testing of staff and students available starting the week of Feb. 22, according to school board officials in Windsor-Essex. And yet, both say they are still in the planning stages of the plan. Will testing start next week at the Greater Essex District School Board? I sincerely hope so, I’m working towards that says Sharon Pyke, GECDSB superintendent and COVID lead. Pyke does say they still working with the health unit and ministry to identify which schools should be offered testing first. And she says they also must meet with a third-party vendor to iron out all the details of the program.

4:40 pm Ontario public health officials provided an update on the province’s variant cases today.
Dr. Barbara Yaffe, associate chief medical officer of health, said a total of seven per cent of screened COVID-19 cases are variants of concern. To date, Ontario has confirmed 319 cases of fast-spreading coronavirus variants in the province.
The vast majority – 309 – are the UK variant. There are nine cases of the South Africa variant and one confirmed case of the Brazilian variant.
The variants are spread across 15 public health units in Ontario. York Region has 49 variant cases, Toronto has 38 variant cases, Peel Region has 38 variant cases and Durham Region has 18.
