Detroit public schools offering $15K pay incentive for Exceptional Student Education teachers Elizabeth Ruiz and last updated 2021-05-24 07:21:24-04 DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Public Schools Community District is offering a reoccurring pay incentive of $15,000 for select Exceptional Student Education teachers, beginning in the 2021-2022 school year. The district said the bonus aims to fill the remaining teacher vacancies in DPSCD, which have steadily declined from nearly 300 in fall 2017 to 38 this spring. Of the vacancies in the district, 80% are in ESE positions. The following current district employed teachers and those who would be newly recruited and hold active endorsement will be eligible:

Sarasota beefs up school administrative staffing The Sarasota County School Board approved a reorganization of the district’s administrative leadership earlier this week, with the bulk of the changes taking place in the district’s Student Services and Exceptional Student Education departments. Superintendent Brennan Asplen requested the changes, which district officials said will lead to an annual cost savings of $8,958 from the general fund. He is splitting the existing Pupil Support Services Department into two departments, one focused on students with disabilities and the other on health and wellness. The net change is eight new administrative positions, largely focused on compliance work, staff training, curriculum development and mental health support, Chief Financial Officer Mitsi Corcoran said on Thursday.

The Highlands County Sheriff s Office said Cynthia Heiss was arrested Thursday, April 29, and charged with two counts of child abuse. Deputies said the incident happened April 21 in an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) pre-kindergarten classroom at Park Elementary in Avon Park. Another employee reported Heiss got angry with two students who would not calm down to her satisfaction. Deputies said she force-fed a packet of jelly to one student while holding his mouth closed until he swallowed it. She also stuffed tissue in the other student s mouth and held his mouth closed for several seconds, deputies said.

According to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, another employee reported that Heiss got angry with two students who would not calm down to her satisfaction and force-fed a packet of jelly to one student, holding his mouth closed until he swallowed it, then stuffed a tissue in the other student’s mouth and held his mouth closed for several seconds.
