As few as 40 per cent of people working with some of the province s most vulnerable people residents of personal care homes are vaccinated against COVID-19.
Care home administrators and the organization that represents many such facilities in the province are trying to persuade Manitoba s vaccine task force to let the same nurses looking after residents give shots to fellow staff members.
Jan Legeros, executive director of the Long Term & Continuing Care Association of Manitoba, said the group is hearing from member facilities that between 40 to 45 per cent of care home staff have been vaccinated.

Once (variants) do find their way into Manitoba, I think the probability of yet another surge is quite high, said Dr. Anand Kumar, an infectious disease specialist, who noted vaccines still aren t widely available.

The Manitoba government has announced its replacement for the chair of Winnipeg s health region, who stepped down last week after reports he d travelled to Arizona during the pandemic.
Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson says Patricia Solman is the new chair of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.
Solman is a chartered accountant and was most recently vice-chair of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation.
Premier Brian Pallister said last month he was disappointed former chair Wayne McWhirter disregarded a strong recommendation from health officials that Manitobans avoid unnecessary travel.
