The movie, Judas and the Black Messiah, accurately depicts government conspiracy against Black Panthers, a former Winston-Salem member says

The movie, “Judas and the Black Messiah” is a largely accurate portrayal of how the government conspired to kill one of the leaders of the Black Panther Party, a former leader of the Panthers in Winston-Salem says. The movie “shows how the FBI went out of its way to murder Panthers like Fred Hampton and others,” said Larry Little, who at age 19 was a founding member of the Winston-Salem chapter of the Black Panther Party and a city native. “That sets the historical record straight,” Little said. “It was an organized political assassination.” The film depicts how the FBI used a confidential informant in its surveillance of a Panther leader and its collaboration with Chicago police in December 1969.

New Bill Would Add Two New Seats To Winston-Salem City Council

North Carolina state representatives Donny Lambeth and Lee Zachary introduced a bill Monday to add two new seats to the Winston-Salem City Council.  Currently, there are eight members of the council, each one representing a different city ward. The two new seats would be elected at-large, or by a citywide vote. Currently, only the mayor is elected at-large.

These six will be considered for seat on school board

On Tuesday, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Board of Education is expected to decide who should fill a seat that has been vacant since Barbara Burke stepped down to serve on the Winston-Salem City Council. Rather than appoint a new member, as it did the last two times a seat became vacant, the board asked candidates to submit applications that included questions on reopening schools and diversity.  Eight candidates applied to the be on the board, with two candidates Nate French and Alfred Harvey, ineligible because they do not live in the district that Burke represented — District 1, which covers the urban core. Besides a residential requirement, the new candidate must also be a Democrat.
