Critics Choice Awards Claim Golden Globes Date for Early January 2022

Critics Choice Awards Claim Golden Globes Date for Early January 2022 NBC effectively canceled the 2022 edition of the beleaguered Golden Globes earlier this week Tim Baysinger | May 12, 2021 @ 3:30 PM Getty Images A few days after NBC said it wouldn’t broadcast next year’s Golden Globes, which effectively put the annual show on ice for at least year, another awards show has taken its early January spot on the calendar. The CW announced it will move up next year’s Critics Choice Awards to Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, and air them live from 7-10 p.m. ET (West Coast will be tape-delayed). “We are thrilled to be partnering with The CW again and looking forward to gathering in person to celebrate the finest work of this upcoming season,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said. “The 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards will mark a return to the glamorous, star-studded revelry that make these nights absolutely unforgettable.”

At the Oscars, a Hollywood Foreign Press Association member interviewing him confused him with Leslie Odom Jr. The party’s over for the Golden Globes, at least for now. Long marketed as the less uptight cousin of the Academy Awards, the Globes are now scrambling to clean up their act after NBC announced it would not broadcast the show in 2022 because of a series of controversies involving the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the voting group behind the ceremony.

The Golden Globes are gone Does Hollywood need a replacement?

What happens next? Will more Hollywood stars remove their Globes from mantels and put them into storage? What about five-time host Ricky Gervais, who once boasted about making practical use of his trophies: “One’s a doorstop, one I use to hit burglars with and one I keep by the bed to doesn’t matter why.”
