KARACHI: A day after Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan expressed hopes that the ban imposed on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to operate flights in Europe would be lifted soon, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) informed the national flag carrier that the ban had been extended by three months and that it would not be reviewed until a safety audit of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), it emerged on Saturday.

TAXILA: Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan has said that most concerns of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) regarding process of issuing licences to commercial pilots have been addressed and it is hoped the ban imposed on Pakistan International Airlines to operate flights to and from European countries would be lifted soon.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday at the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Secretariat here along with Punjab Assembly member Ammar Sadeeq Khan and Malik Taimour Masood, Mr Khan said the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had issued licences to a total of 860 pilots, but there were concerns over licences of 262 pilots.

With the local bodies’ elections barely three months away, the provincial government has started sending the proposed development schemes to the Local Government Planning Board for final approval.
The neighbourhood level schemes have been devised in consultation with the PTI members of the national and provincial assemblies to woo voters of their respective constituencies in Rawalpindi. The Punjab government has approved funds worth over Rs1.37 billion to be released through ruling party’s lawmakers for neighbourhood development schemes in the garrison city, sources said. These funds are part of Rs5.55 billion package for microlevel development schemes across the province to further strengthen position of the ruling party
