HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam s trade in automobile and footwear rose sharply between January and April, according to the country s General Statistics Office on Friday (May 7).

Specifically, the country imported 49,360 completely-built automobiles worth more than $1.1bil, up 55.2 percent in volume and 57.2 percent in value, according to the country s General Statistics Office on Friday.
In 2020, total automobile sales in Vietnam stood at 296,634 units, down 8 percent year on year, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Auto sales in the first two months of the year jumped by 21 percent to 40,017 units.
Passenger vehicles dominated sales at 71 percent, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association.
Local company Truong Hai Auto (Thaco) led the market with 14,964 units representing a 39 percent year-on-year increase.
It was followed by Toyota (6,848), and Mitsubishi (4,605).
Honda and Ford rounded off the top five.
Last year sales had fallen by 8 percent to 296,634 units as the Covid-19 pandemic badly affected the economy, hitting people’s incomes and discretionary spending.

HANOI, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) Vietnam spent 551 million U.S. dollars on importing completely-built automobiles and components for assembly in January, posting a year-on-year increase of 22.5 percent.
Specifically, the country imported around 6,000 completely-built automobiles worth 191 million U.S. dollars, up 32.8 percent in volume and 58.6 percent in value, according to the country s Ministry of Industry and Trade on Monday.
