A LAWMAKER seeks to investigate the alleged non-compliance of food delivery app companies to providing a 20% discount to senior citizens.
In a statement on Friday, Deputy Speaker Bernadette Herrera-Dy said she filed House Resolution No. 1626 which calls for a probe in aid of legislation by an appropriate House committee on food delivery service providers violating Republic Act (RA) 9944 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
“There is an increasing number of complaints from the senior citizens who could not avail of the 20% discount mandated by law for food deliveries using applications like Food Panda and Grab, among others,” she said in a statement on Friday.

A total of 10,000 indigent senior citizens in Parañaque City already received their government social pension amounting to P3,000.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez said they have already finished the distribution of the P3,000 social pension to the city’s 10,000 indigent senior citizens covering the period from July to December 2020 in eight barangays in District II. The distribution in eight remaining barangays in District I will immediately follow.
The mayor said the city government is targeting to finish the distribution of the government social pension on February 23.
Olivarez explained that under RA. 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, indigent senior citizens are entitled to receive P500 monthly pension or P3,000 every semester of the year as an additional government assistance to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) appealed Tuesday to Congress to pursue the passage of a measure seeking to increase the social pension of more than 3 million indigent senior citizens in the country.
