Earlier, the majority of the public universities had decided to hold honours first-year admission test for 2020-21 academic session in June-July.
Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad, an association of vice-chancellors of public universities, yesterday sat in a virtual meeting and discussed delaying of the entrance test.
Barishal University VC Prof Sadequl Arefin and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said holding of the test would be deferred. We [Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad] will sit for another meeting after Eid to fix the admission [test] dates of public universities, said Prof Farid.

The second wave of coronavirus infection has hit Bangladesh through mainly the UK and South African variants.
A group of researchers of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) in a study analysed genomic sequence of 10 samples. Of them, UK variant was found in six samples and South African variant in three samples and one Australian variant. But, they did not find any Indian variant.
CVASU prof Paritosh Kumar Biswas, Prof Sharmin Chowdhury, Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Rana, Dr Tridip Das, Dr Pranesh Dutta, Dr M Sirajul Islam and Dr Tanvir Ahmed Nizami conducted the research.

At a time when the RT-PCR test results are getting delayed in the district due to dearth of laboratory facilities, the Wayanad district panchayat is preparing to set up a modern laboratory here to avoid the delay .
“Now the RT-PCR tests are being conducted at the virology laboratory of the Health department in Sulthan Bathery and a newly set up laboratory of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University headquarters at Pookode in the district. But, it would take at least four to five days to get the test results and the delay in getting the results is the major concern of the public,” District Panchayat President Shamsad Marakkar told

Looming threat
I write this letter as the former Director of Research and Health, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. There is certainly a very important medical emergency, namely Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR), waiting to strike across the world (OpEd page, “Antimicrobial resistance: the silent threat”, April 29). It is indeed apt to call it a slow tsunami that threatens to undo the medical progress achieved over a century. Though such warnings and threats have been in print for quite a while, nothing tangible appears to have been done by regulatory authorities.
