Graduation ceremonies kick off Friday for UofSC

ABC Columbia May 7, 2021 12:49 PM EDT COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The University of South Carolina’s graduation ceremonies begin Friday evening, and this year will look a lot different due to the pandemic. Ceremonies will take place at Williams-Brice Stadium instead of Colonial Life Arena, in order to minimize the risk of COVID-19. UofSC Spring 2021 Graduation Image: ABC Columbia Masks and social distancing will be required for graduates and their guests. The first ceremony takes place at 6 p.m.

Gamecock Park vaccine site moving to Colonial Life Arena

Updated: 1:54 PM EDT April 30, 2021 COLUMBIA, S.C. Prisma Health s mass vaccination site in Columbia will be moving from the Gamecock Park to the Colonial Life Arena. Prisma said Friday that the last day of operation at the Gamecock Park, which is across the street from the University of South Carolina s Williams-Brice Stadium, will be this Saturday, May 1. The site at the Colonial Life Arena site will open at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5.  Prisma says the move is being made due to the coming summer heat. This new site also has additional evening hours to help people who want to get vaccinated after work.

Austin is among the speakers at the University of South Carolina’s spring’s commencement exercises, which are being held in-person at the school’s massive football stadium for the first time. Austin will speak May 8 to graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Information and Communications and the South Carolina Honors College, university officials said Thursday. A day earlier, Gov. Henry McMaster will address graduates of the Darla Moore School of Business, the Arnold School of Public Health and the School of Music.

The annual spring football game will be moved to Sunday at 2 p.m. in Williams-Brice Stadium and will televised on SEC Network Plus. The Gamecock baseball team is hosting Arkansas in a three-game series, starting tonight at Founders Park. The Saturday game will be moved to Friday as part of a day-night doubleheader with each game being nine innings. The Friday games will start at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will be televised on SEC Network Plus.
