Letter: Broken Promise

by Letters to the editor on Thursday Feb 04 2021 Monday, February 1 marked the four year anniversary of Trudeau s broken promise on electoral reform. “We are committed to ensuring that the 2015 election will be the last federal election using FPtP” It was a key campaign promise which Trudeau repeated over 1800 times. An all party parliamentary committee, ERRE, heard from experts from around the world, MPs sought input from constituents and 360,000 Cdns completed a national survey.  The committee s majority report recommended a process towards adopting an effective system of proportional representation for Canada, and it was not the only study in Canada to do so either.

Neil Peart Sculpture Celebrates the Life of the Late Rush Drummer

A sculpture of Rush drummer Neil Peart comes together in a new video from Canadian artist Morgan MacDonald. A year after Peart s death, MacDonald s aim is for the statue to grace Ontario s Lakeside Park, an area Rush immortalized in their 1975 song bearing the park s name. He crafted the likeness of Peart with support from his brother, lifelong Rush fan Bill MacDonald. The siblings are teaming with up-and-coming Canadian musician Peter Fewer to dedicate the tribute sculpture to the late Rush member, who died from brain cancer in January 2020. Watch the video of the sculpture down toward the bottom of this post.
