Gov. Tony Evers Jan. 7 announced the Wisconsin National Guard administered their one millionth COVID-19 test this week, representing a significant milestone in the stateâs effort to offer regular, widespread testing statewide.
âThis milestone further exemplifies the absolutely vital role the Wisconsin National Guard has played in our stateâs response to the COVID-19 pandemic,â said Gov. Evers. âThis has been the longest activation of the Guard in state history and yet day in and day out the Guard answers the call to help their neighbors and communities. Whether through testing, working at the polls on election day, helping local governments, or assisting in our vaccine distribution program, we greatly appreciate their service and dedication to our state.â

The troops, which include Soldiers from various Wisconsin Army National Guard units, as well as Airmen from Wisconsin Air National Guard units, will serve in a support role alongside thousands of other National Guard troops from other states mobilized this week to support security efforts in Washington DC.
“We are once again thankful to the Wisconsin National Guard for always stepping up, not only for their friends and neighbors here in Wisconsin, but wherever they are needed,” said Governor Evers. “I’m confident these members of the Guard will assist in any way they can to help maintain peace and security in our nation’s capital in the days ahead.”
