by Sgt. Alice Ripberger, VOLK FIELD, Wis. One of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s smallest units arrived safely at Volk Field before reuniting with their families Dec. 18 after an 11-month mobilization to the Horn of Africa and Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.
The five-person 1967th Contracting Team completed demobilization requirements in Texas before state leadership greeted them with a homecoming ceremony different than anyone imagined when they left last January.

UW-Madison Fall 2020 graduates react to virtual winter commencement

MADISON, Wis. Another class of UW-Madison students will graduate virtually on Sunday, with commencement ceremonies being held online for the second time since the pandemic began.
Yet the virtual format isn’t the only unique thing about this round of graduation. Sven Kleinhans will make history by being the first student athlete to be the commencement speaker.
“Being from Germany, it’s usually not that big of a deal so looking at it from a more cultural perspective, where I come from, where I grew up, it is an honor but it’s not that big of a deal but people here have been telling me that I can be pretty proud,” said Kleinhans.
MILWAUKEE â Jason Young, an Iraq War veteran and former president of Price Erecting Co., has purchased a longstanding east side fabrication and metals shop, rebranding the business as 3Up Metal Works.
Young, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and Wisconsin Army National Guard and a Germantown resident, bought the custom metals fabrication company formerly known as SSO, LLC, 7420 N. Teutonia Ave. The companyâs new name, 3Up Metal Works, references Youngâs rank as sergeant when honorably discharged after 12 years of service. Its logo contains three chevrons, a military insignia designating the rank of sergeant.
Young steps into the role ready to lead, bringing a dozen yearsâ experience in managerial roles at companies involved in manufacturing, construction equipment, product distribution and roofing.
