Today the Wisconsin Book Festival announced several big names for its upcoming May events, most notably, U.S. Senator and bestselling author Elizabeth Warren. Warren will appear virtually on May 6 at 7 p.m. one of her tour’s first stops to discuss her 12th book, “Persist,” a “deeply personal book and a powerful call to action” highlighting six perspectives that have influenced her life and advocacy, due out from Macmillan imprint Henry Holt & Co. on May 4. Registration on Crowdcast is required in advance, and the first 600 attendees who sign in and attend the live event will receive a free copy

This addition to the Wisconsin Union Theater schedule is a big one: Nicholas Payton. First coming to national prominence as a jazz trumpeter â picking up a Grammy as well as several nominations over the years â Payton s musical range transcends genre boundaries. (As stated on his website, There are no fields, per se. There are lineages. ) The New Orleans native is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, runs his own record label, and a prolific essayist on topics as wide-ranging as his musical directions. Flutist Iva UgrÄiÄ performs internationally and founded the Madison-based LunART Festival.
Flutist Iva UgrÄiÄ has performed around the world as a soloist and ensemble member, and came to Madison to earn a doctoral degree in flute performance at UW-Madison. In addition to founding the LunART Festival, UgrÄiÄ has performed with various regional ensembles and currently is a member of Black Marigold Wind Quintet and Sound Out Loud. Pianist Satoko Hayami has also performed and taught piano around the world, and is a current UW doctoral candidate. The duo plays works by Valerie Coleman, André Jolivet and Carl Reinecke during this livestream as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater s new Wisconsin Sound Series, featuring Madison-area performers.
