KATHMANDU After weeks of infighting in the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli on Dec. 20 suddenly called on the president to dissolve the House of Representatives. The president then announced that new elections would be held on April 30 and May 10, 2021, a year ahead of schedule.
Seven ministers also resigned, leaving Oli with only six ministers and 12 standing committee members.
Opposition members joined some members of Oli’s NCP against the move, which some analysts say is not legal.

Nepal President dissolves parliament, announces fresh polls
Kathmandu, Dec 20 (UNI) Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday dissolved the Parliament on the recommendations of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli s government. As per the recommendation of the Hon ble Prime Minister, the current House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament has been dissolved and the first phase of the election has been fixed on Friday, April 3 and the second phase on Monday, April 11 , the President s office said.

Kathmandu, Dec 20 : Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday recommended dissolution of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament at an emergency Cabinet meeting.
The recommendation to to dissolve the House came two years prior to its term.
It will now be forwarded to President Bidya Devi Bhandari for approval and effect.
