When, in March, John Arrigo married Megan Noderer in a swanky members’ club in Florida, it seemed only polite to invite the club’s owner, an old friend, to say a few words at the reception.
What the couple may not have expected was that the few words would turn into a rambling monologue of personal grievance, self-justification, and fulminations about domestic and global politics.
Dressed in a tuxedo and standing in front of the waiting wedding band, the club’s owner departed from the usual pleasantries about the happy couple, embarking on a tirade about China, Iran and border control – ‘… the border’s not good…’ – and a rant about the election result – ‘We did get 75 million votes. Nobody’s ever gotten that’ – before remembering at the last moment to mention the ‘great and beautiful’ couple whose wedding it was.
