00:00:00 / 00:00:00     On Newstalk Breakfast this morning, the Medical Director of the Tropical Medical Bureau Dr Graham Fry said it is now time to rethink Ireland’s policy of not offering it to the elderly. “I think it is one of the vaccines that we can get out there very easily by comparison to the other alternatives – and that is one of the issues, we need to get this vaccine out to people as quickly as possible,” he said. “There is no question about the safety of the Oxford vaccine, that is not the issue. The issue is whether it works to the same extent in those older age groups – the 65s, 70-plus age group.

Dr Fry told Newstalk Breakfast: [Some] have come in to Ireland from overseas. they ve been quarantining for five or six days, and want to know whether it s safe to go see the parents or grandparents. There are others who are actually going overseas somewhere, and they need a travel certificate to get on the airplane in the first place. The peace of mind [tests] are people who just have a bit of a sniffle or cough, and just want to follow through. some of those have turned up positive, unfortunately. Negative tests Dr Fry said Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn is absolutely correct when he says a private negative test does not give people impunity to move around freely.
