The veteran Henrico Police killed by a hit-and-run driver in Glen Allen Saturday morning is being remembered as a gifted musician and selfless leader who served the department for nearly 34 years. The absence of a violin during Sunday’s service at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Glen Allen was a painful reminder of the loss of Henrico Police Capt. Donald L. Lambert Jr. Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Rev. Jerry Parker, who knew Lambert since the 1980s, said he was a talented violinist.

Most attend churches that are predominantly Black, yet many would like those congregations to become racially diverse. There is broad respect for Black churches’ historical role in seeking racial equality, coupled with a widespread perception they have lost influence in recent decades. Those are among the key findings in a comprehensive report released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed 8,660 Black adults across the United States about their religious experiences. It is Pew’s first large-scale survey on the topic.

Franklin – Mr. Donald (Don) Wayne Hall of Franklin died Friday evening, December 18, 2020, at his residence. Crafton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Don spent his youth in Youngstown, Ohio and Franklin, Kentucky. He graduated from Franklin Simpson High School in 1959. He would remain a resident of Franklin for the rest of his life. He was the son of the late Wendall B. Hall and Ottie Stringer Hall. He was also preceded in death by a brother – Roger B. “Spider” Hall. After graduation, Don joined the US Navy. In 1962 Don worked 72 hours straight to repair his ship’s radar. This repair allowed his ship, the destroyer USS Noa, to be a part of the recovery team for Mercury Astronaut John Glenn’s splashdown of the Friendship Seven. The USS Noa was the first ship to find the Friendship Seven by radar. By order of NASA, the Noa was the ship to pick up the grateful astronaut. After his Navy service,

December 13, 2020 - 5:53 PM MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Rev. James L. Netters Sr., a civil rights advocate who was one of the first Black members of the Memphis City Council, has died. He was 93. Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Memphis announced Netters death on its website Sunday. Netters served as the church s pastor for more than 60 years. “Our prayers are with the friends and family of Rev. Dr. James Netters,” the City Council said in a statement on Twitter. “He was one of the first African American Memphis City Council members and his legacy will never be forgotten.” The cause of death was not immediately known. A message to the church was not returned Sunday evening.
