Britain s coronavirus cases have continued to fall two weeks after lockdown was eased on April 12 but deaths have risen by one, new figures showed today.
The Government said there had been a further 1,712 lab-confirmed cases in the UK - a drop of 9 per cent compared to last week s figure of 1,882.
Today 11 new deaths from the disease were recorded - a ten per cent increase on last Sunday s figure of 10.
Data released today shows the number of Covid cases total 4,404,882 whilst the total number of Covid deaths within 28 days of a positive test has reached the tragic total of 127,428.
As of Friday April 23 the latest NHS data recorded 243 Covid patients who are currently on ventilation in hospital. As of Thursday April 22 there were 1,781 Covid patients being treated in hospital.
Back in June 2019 – when it became clear Boris was sailing to victory in the Tory leadership election, but there were serious divisions between his official campaign and allies of his partner Carrie Symonds – I wrote: ‘There cannot be two competing Boris campaigns. There cannot be two competing Boris Downing Streets.
And there cannot be two competing Boris administrations. At the moment there is Team Boris and there is Team Carrie. The next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom is going to have to choose between them.’
Boris never chose. Which is why this morning his Government is eating itself alive.

British lawmakers on Thursday (local time) approved a parliamentary motion declaring that China s policies against its Uyghur minority population in the far western Xinjiang region amounted to genocide and crimes against humanity.

Nigel Farage has urged Britons to boycott Chinese-made products to “stop the rise of this horrible, communist regime” following what he perceives as a fracturing of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network after New Zealand rejected plans to challenge its major trading partner, China.
The Brexit leader made the remarks on Thursday after New Zealand’s foreign minister rejected calls from allies in the Five Eyes to expand its remit to include a political scope that would include challenging China.
“We are uncomfortable with expanding the remit of the Five Eyes relationship,” Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said this week.
Farage said that New Zealand which with Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada form the Five Eyes was essentially “launching a new close alliance with China and they are effectively leaving the Five Eyes intelligence network”.
