JAKARTA (The Straits Times/ANN): Most of Java, the most-populous island in Indonesia, has reported an improvement in the Covid-19 situation.
The number of confirmed cases in five of its six provinces - Banten, West Java, East Java, Yogyakarta and Jakarta - has declined, according to the health ministry. The authorities attributed the decline in cases to emergency restrictions that have been imposed on Java and other areas of the country since early this month.
Central Java is the only outlier, with the province accounting for the most deaths nationwide on Tuesday (July 27). The number of deaths in the province jumped to 417, 147 more than the day before.

As the Coronavirus crisis deepens in India, Singapore has once again extended its support to India as the Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman flagged off 2 of the Singapore Air Force’s C-130s, arriving in India today with 256 Oxygen cylinders. Earlier Temasek, a Singapore investment company, also sent medical supplies, including four cryogenic oxygen cylinders donated by India’s Tata Group.
In the midst of a critical medical oxygen shortage in Delhi, Punjabi Bagh Police have arrested two people for illegally selling oxygen cylinders. They were found with four Oxygen cylinders and one large commercial Oxygen cylinder. On Tuesday, Delhi high court chastised the Delhi Government on the issue of black marketing and asked to immediately take over an oxygen refilling plant and issued five other refillers with contempt notices.
SINGAPORE - Singapore has sent two planeloads of oxygen cylinders to help India address its unprecedented oxygen crisis arising from a second wave of Covid-19 infections.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force will transport the cylinders on board two C-130 aircraft from Singapore to West Bengal in India.
Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman on Wednesday (April 28) reaffirmed both countries strong bilateral relations and highlighted that Singaporeans stand in solidarity with India in its fight against the pandemic. This is made possible because of the existing close relationship between our two peoples, governments and countries, he said.
Dr Maliki, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister s Office, spoke during the handover of Singapore s humanitarian assistance to India s High Commissioner to Singapore P. Kumaran on Wednesday at Paya Lebar Air Base.
