If Nashville is all about songwriting, as some observers believe, Americana music is one genre far from the only one that can have difficulty connecting good songs with interesting production styles. In many cases, the song remains at the forefront, which means Americana is, at its core, deeply stylistically conservative. Still, when the formula balancing song to sound works right, you can wind up with music that’s both conservative and idiosyncratic. Some artists figure out how to solve the problem, and you can hear that clearly on Nashville singer and songwriter Mando Saenz’s latest full-length

You’ve likely heard me talking about how WMOT is a great place for music discovery. Today’s Liner Notes is a perfect example of that. I received an email a few months ago from Molly Murphy, an artist I hadn’t heard of and was pleasantly surprised when I listened to her song, “Wildflower Girl”, the first single from her debut EP,
What You’re Living For, out today. It’s exciting to see a young artist embarking on their career, releasing music for the first time and trying to find their way in a town full of people releasing music constantly. She’s a recent Nashvillian, originally from Fairfield, Connecticut, she moved to town shortly after graduating from Notre Dame. Molly’s also a visual artist, animal lover (me too!) and is writing and illustrating a children’s book with her sister.

Nail wrote all three songs himself and produced Bootheel 2020 with the help of Reed Pittman.by TV News Desk
GRAMMY-nominated artist David Nail released his newest EP, Bootheel 2020, today. The project has a stripped down, raw sound that really allows the three stories to shine on their own. Nail s voice takes on this ominous, yet intimate feeling, bringing the listener in closer and closer. He brings his family to the forefront as his son, Lawson, can be heard on the prelude and interlude and the EP is titled after the region of Missouri that Nail grew up in. Listen to Bootheel 2020 here.
