Republican voters in North Huntingdon’s Fourth Ward will see two familiar names on the township commissioners ballot in the May 18 primary.
It will be a replay of the 2017 primary and general election, only the roles will be reversed because Brian Blasko, then the challenger, now is the incumbent and Richard Gray, then the incumbent, is this year’s challenger.
Unless some Democrat gets at least 10 write-in votes in the primary, the winner of the Republican primary is virtually assured of winning the seat in November. Gray came very close to beating Blasko as a write-in candidate in the November 2017 election.

The Westmoreland County Recorder of Deeds office at the courthouse in Greensburg will be closed Friday as technical staff work to complete a $90,000 computer system upgrade officials say will improve public access to property records.
The closure means the filing of deeds, mortgages and all other documents will be halted at 4 p.m. Thursday and not resume until 8:30 a.m. May 3, Recorder of Deeds Frank Schiefer said.
“In addition to cleaning up the public access site and giving it a fresh, cleaner look, this new system will allow us to pursue other projects in the near future. Those include expanding the types of documents that we can receive and record electronically and also a fraud alert system that will be available to the public,” Schiefer said.

The former Penn-Irwin Motel property along Route 30 in Irwin is a step closer to a transformation after officials approved plans for the site, although much of the hillside will be removed before construction can begin.
Irwin Borough approved development plans submitted by Colony Development Co. of North Huntingdon for an AutoZone store and shopping plaza. Final approval is pending zoning variances, cell phone tower approval and agreements with adjoining property owners.
The developer must determine how property taxes will be split between North Huntingdon and Irwin, because the parcel is in both municipalities, said Zachary Kansler, borough solicitor. Colony Development must determine how many square feet is in each municipality.
