Fifty members of the New Zealand Defence Force have contracted Covid-19 while based offshore.
The NZDF says the figure is a reflection of the high global infection rate, but refuses to release details of who caught the virus and where, sighting medical and privacy considerations .
The revelation to the Herald comes after 13 personnel and family stationed in Canada caught the virus earlier this month.
They appeared to have picked up the virus from their accommodation in a building 12km from the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt.

Authorities are working to fix a West Auckland pathway that has partially collapsed after an underground water main burst.
Emergency services were called to an area on West Coast Rd, near Glengarry Rd, in Glen Eden after reports that concrete was starting to crumble late last night.

Award-winning New Zealand director, Taika Waititi, is currently on location in Australia, filming the third instalment in the Thor movie franchise with Chris Hemsworth, and his 5-year-old daughter.
Earlier today the 45-year-old director took to his Twitter to post sweet, black and white photos of himself with his two daughters, Te Hinekaahu, 8, and Matewa, 5. From the caption it seems clear that his youngest daughter, Matewa, will be starring in at least one scene in the film.

Auckland restaurateur Leo Molloy has been convicted, fined and ordered to complete community work for deliberately flouting a High Court suppression order and naming Grace Millane s murderer online.
The owner of HeadQuarters in the Viaduct, was the first and to date only person to be charged by New Zealand police after numerous suppression breaches before and after the high-profile murder trial of Jesse Kempson in November 2019.
Others have been given warnings by police for identifying the British backpacker s killer before he lost his name suppression last December.
