Taipei, July 9 (CNA) Taiwan shares moved sharply lower Friday morning as investors took cues from the losses suffered by the U.S. markets overnight amid renewed concerns that a spike in COVID-19 cases in several countries would affect the global economic recovery, dealers said.
Fears over interruptions in the economic recovery came at a time of a rebound in COVID-19 cases in many countries, prompting investors at home and abroad to cut their holdings, dealers added.
As of 11:23 a.m., the Taiex, the weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), had fallen 213.33 points, or 1.19 percent, at 17,652.76, on turnover of NT$348.29 billion (US$12.44 billion).
