My son should be burying me, Daunte Wright s mother says | Braintree and Witham Times

Daunte Wright, the young black man shot during a traffic stop in Minneapolis, was a “prince” whose life ended too soon at the hands of the police, the Rev Al Sharpton said during an emotional funeral. Hundreds of people wearing Covid masks packed into Shiloh Temple International Ministries to remember Mr Wright, a 20-year-old father-of-one who was shot by a police officer on April 11 in Brooklyn Centre. The funeral was held just two days after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted in the death of George Floyd and amid a national reckoning on racism and policing. “The absence of justice is the absence of peace,” said Mr Sharpton, who delivered a thundering eulogy.

Officer fired for fatally shooting Rayshard Brooks, wants job back

Associated Press ATLANTA A former Atlanta police officer s attorney said Thursday that his client didn t get a chance to defend himself before he was fired for fatally shooting Rayshard Brooks, a Black man who had been running away from two white officers after he resisted arrest and fired a stun gun at one of them. Officer Garrett Rolfe was dismissed without a proper investigation by the city on June 13, one day after Brooks death, Rolfe s attorney, Lance LoRusso, told the city s civil service board as he argued for his client s reinstatement to the force, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The encounter outside a Wendy s restaurant last year started calmly but rapidly spun out of control when Atlanta police tried to handcuff and arrest Brooks, 27, for suspected DUI.
