MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Shelby County health leaders still don’t know if the higher than usual COVID-19 case numbers we’re seeing are a fourth wave or temporary.
As daily case averages climb, vaccinations continue.
Plus, there are thousands of dollars of gift cards being given away.
While tailgaters were finally back at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium for Friday’s game, vaccinations were also taking place at the game.
“It’s been steady. So it’s promising,” Tiffany Collins with the City of Memphis said.

New reporting from the Memphis Business Journal tonight found the state health department exaggerated vaccine inventory problems at the Shelby County Health Department.
Who can forget that day on February 23rd when the state stripped the county s authority for handling vaccines, handed the keys to the city, and accused the county of mismanagement and a lack of leadership for having 30,000 excess vaccines in storage. Several people lost their jobs, including director Dr. Alisa Haushalter.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - You could get paid to get your COVID-19 vaccine this weekend.
The City of Memphis is handing out tens of thousands of dollars in gift cards to those getting vaccinated at the Pipkin Building this weekend.
On Friday and Saturday, the first 2,500 people in line to get their shot will get a $20 Kroger or Walmart gift card. You do not need a reservation.
After going all day Wednesday allowing vaccinations without an appointment at the Pipkin Building, the City of Memphis has extended it to the rest of the week.
