Fire from chemical storage leaves 2 dead, 23 injured in Old Dhaka s Armanitola Photo: Anisur Rahman Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Two persons were killed and 23 were injured, including fire service officials, in a fire at a building in Old Dhaka s Armanitola area early today. One of the deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akhter (22), a second-year student of Eden College, said Abdul Halim, assistant director of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence. The other deceased was the security guard of the building whose name could not be known immediately. The 23 injured, including five fire service officials, were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of the institute, adding that three of the injured were in ICU.

4 killed, 35 injured in Armanitola chemical warehouse fire At least four people were killed and 35 others sustained burn injuries after a massive fire broke out at chemical warehouse in the Armanitola area of Old Dhaka in the early hours of Friday. Officials said the fire started at the ground floor of the six-storey Hazi Musa Mansion in Armanitola at 3.17 am and soon spread to other portions of the building. And it took 19 fire tenders nearly three hours to douse the flames. Initially two bodies were recovered by the firefighters but later two more were pulled out from a small room near the stairs of the building, officials said.

11 injured in Narayanganj gas explosion 11 injured in Narayanganj gas explosion At least 11 people of two families suffered burn injuries after a gas explosion at a building at Paschim Talla area of Narayanganj Sadar upazila on Friday. Five critically injured people were sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. “The gas explosion occurred around 6:00 am today in two flats on the second floor of a building. Locals at first took the injured to Narayanganj General Hospital. From here five were sent to Dhaka in a critical state. They suffered 50% burn injuries,” Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Arefin said.
