OUTSPOKEN Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions president Peter Mutasa says ordinary Zimbabweans living in the current Zanu PF led regime were now worse that animals.
Mutasa was speaking in an address to mark Workers Day Saturday.
He said as workers, they regretted supporting the 2017 coup that ousted now late former President Robert Mugabe and ushered in incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“When we supported the military coup hoping that they will progress, we actually jumped from the frying pan into the fire and we have no one else is going to rescue us than ourselves,” he said in an address that was also beamed online.

WORKERS under the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) banner yesterday decried living standards in the country, which they described as “unbearable and terrible”, and worse than life during the tenure of the late former President Robert Mugabe.
On Saturday during Workers’ Day commemorations, President Emmerson Mnangagwa claimed that his government had ushered in a sense of optimism to the country’s workers compared to the Mugabe era.
However, ZCTU president Peter Mutasa quashed the claims saying Mnangagwa’s utterances showed that he was not in touch with reality.
“It is either the President is out of touch with the lived experiences of workers and the poor, or he is being misinformed. Life is terrible for workers and clearly the Mugabe era was far better for workers than this era,” Mutasa told

IN AN ominous message for the opposition, Zanu PF says it wants all people who have supported the West’s sanctions on Zimbabwe to be barred from taking part in the 2023 polls.
In that light, the ruling party says, it wants a provision barring the likes of MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa inserted into the mooted Patriotic Bill, which authorities want to become law as soon as possible.

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa, under siege from a restive government workforce constantly demanding increased and US dollar wages, has made a surprise appeal to Zimbabwean employers to treat their workers fairly.
Addressing journalists at State House Saturday, Mnangagwa also highlighted the country’s laws encouraged workers to freely engage.
Zimbabwean workers Saturday joined the rest of the world to commemorate Workers’ Day at a time the country’s workforce has seen incomes eroded by continued price increases coupled with a business that has been battered by an economically taxing Covid-19 pandemic.
