SunStar File January 08, 2021 IT IS the job of the barangays to collect their garbage, and filing a complaint over this concern is a “cheap shot.”
This is what Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella had to say after Inayawan Barangay Captain Kirk Bryan Repollo filed a complaint against him and Department of Public Services (DPS) head John Jigo Dacua over the problem of uncollected garbage in Inayawan.
Labella said it is the responsibility of the village chiefs to act on the obligations mandated under the Section 10 of the Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, while the City Government will only provide assistance.

+ January 08, 2021 ABOUT 3,000 devotees attended the first novena mass that kicked off the 456th Fiesta Señor celebration, indicating that Catholics have kept the faith despite the devastation caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Fr. Pacifico Nohara Jr., rector of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, made this observation in his homily during the enthronement and opening salvo mass at the Basilica’s Pilgrim Center Friday morning, Jan. 8, 2021.
“Though we do not know each other personally and we have our faces covered, I am very much happy to see all of you who are devotees of the Señor Sto. Niño,” he said in Cebuano.
SunStar January 08, 2021 FEARING the spread of Covid-19 infections, the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (RIATF) 7 has recommended the cancellation of all “physical and actual performance-based” Sinulog Festival activities this year.
The RIATF sent its recommendation to the national IATF asking the latter to disallow any Sinulog performances even if these are pre-recorded.
In a resolution passed during a virtual meeting on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, the RIATF 7 said it deems it more practical to present Sinulog Festival activities and performances from previous years through an online platform.
The RIATF 7 said all performance-based Sinulog Festival activities such as the Ritual Dance Showdown and Street Dance Competition, among others, pose a threat to the participating contingents and the possible crowd that it might draw which may, consequently, increase the risk of Covid-19 infection.

+ January 06, 2021 LATE December, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who also chairs the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), sought the opinion of national vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. after President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation to allow local governments to buy Covid vaccines.

That was late December, and since then we haven’t heard of any progress of any “tripartite agreement” in the works. Councilor Alvin Dizon’s ordinance that pushed for a Covid vaccination program was filed in early December yet. It’s 2021, and the ordinance must have been stuck on the legal committee level still, and we haven’t had any news on the progress of discussi
