Norway SWF and CalPERS Vote in Favor to Probe Toshiba

California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), which oversees Norway Government Pension Fund Global, voted in favor of a proposal pushed by Singapore-based Effissimo Capital Management. The proposal is for an independent probe into the Japanese conglomerate Toshiba Corporation. Effissimo Capital Management holds a 9.9% stake in Toshiba and remains its largest shareholder. CalPERS owns around 0.45% of Toshiba and NBIM has 1.32% ownership.
Effissimo Capital Management wants to look into allegations that shareholders were pressured about how to vote on director nominations ahead of 2020’s annual general meeting.
Delivery of Next-generation Environmentally Friendly Car Carrier Fueled by LNG “Century Highway Green”
On March 12, the “CENTURY HIGHWAY GREEN”, a car carrier fueled by LNG (liquefied natural gas) that had been under construction at Tadotsu Shipyard Co., Ltd., part of the Imabari Shipbuilding Group, has been delivered to “K” LINE.
She is a next-generation environmentally friendly vessel expected to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a greenhouse gas (GHG) by 25% to 30%( 1), emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), which cause air pollution, by almost 100%, and emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 80% to 90% with the use of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) in addition to the use of LNG fuel, compared to conventional vessels using heavy fuel oil. The launch of “K” LINE’s first LNG- fueled car carrier realizing transportation with a low environmental impact is an important milestone for achieving the targets set forth in the “K” LINE Environmental Vision

A group of 15 Japanese entities has established the Carbon Neutral LNG (CNL) buyers alliance, one of its members Tokyo Gas said on March 9.
The alliance comprises Tokyo Gas, Asahi Group Holdings, Isuzu Motors, Olympus Corp, Sakai Chemical Industry Co., Duskin Co., Tamagawa Academy & University, Toshiba Corporation, Toho Titanium Co., New Otani Co., Marunouchi Heat Supply Co., Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mitsubishi Estate Co., Yakult Honsha Co. and Lumine Co.
Japanese shares ended higher on Tuesday as investors bought consumer goods companies and property developers on expectations that they would benefit from an economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
