The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office is providing new information on a fire that was reported in the town of Romulus earlier this week. It happened on Monday around 9:50 a.m. when deputies responded to 2539 Vineyard Rd. in Romulus for the report of a working structure fire. Deputies said the owners of the farm, identified as Stephen and Fannie Hertzler, called 911 to reporting a shop that was fully-engulfed in flames with a nearby barn at risk.

Seneca County sheriff eager to work on police reform plan

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has submitted its police reform plan, as mandated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2020. Those plans were due by April 1, and while there were documented complaints in law enforcement circles after the initial announcement, Seneca’s law enforcement leaders viewed it as an opportunity. There are a handful of important components, which have been points of contention in other communities across the U.S. They include updates to use of force training, crowd management control, community policing to develop relationships, de-escalation training, implicit bias training, and more. “It’s been an opportunity to get better, and that’s what we want to do,” Sheriff Tim Luce said of the plan.
