Euro funds concern: Scots government faces up to £190m in EC penalties due to spending irregularities THE Scottish Government faces a penalty of up to £190m because of irregularities in spending hundreds of millions in Euro funds which have stretched back six years, the Herald on Sunday can reveal. The potential penalties arise from the suspension by the European Commission (EC) of millions of pounds in payments earmarked for Scotland under both the European Social Fund (ESF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

A Caithness forest is set to benefit from a new children s play area and a larger car park after a community group took over its ownership.
A local trust will now take forward ambitious ideas for Dunnet Forest, after becoming owners of the popular woodland on Thursday.
The Dunnet Forestry Trust took ownership of the 105-acre forest â which will be renamed Dunnet Community Forest â following completion of a community asset transfer agreement with NatureScot.

Inverness BID has applied to Highland Council for funding for its gull project.
Work to control the gull population in Inverness city centre will continue this year if a funding bid proves successful.
Inverness Business Improvement District (Bid) is seeking £11,200 from the Inverness Common Good Fund for the work, to put in place a number of deterrent measures.
